Much is being made about the political situation in Zimbabwe. That situation is terrible. However, a situation exists in the United States that threatens our democracy. It is an issue the media are ignoring.

I am referring to the effort by certain identified elements to illegally influence the presidential election in 2008, as was done in 2000 and 2004. Is that news to you? It probably is because the media let the American public down by failing to report – adequately – election irregularities in 2000 and 2004.

If you don’t believe me about 2000, read Greg Palast’s Armed Madhouse, particularly Chapter 4. Palast is the award-winning journalist who revealed the arbitrary Florida voter purges by Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris.

How was the 2004 election result compromised? Palast details how: the names of legally registered voters in Florida (again), Ohio and New Mexico were purged. In addition, many provisional ballots of voters from largely Democratic precincts were not counted.

Voters in every state can put a stop to this purging of the voter lists by demanding fairness. And, adequate monitoring on and after Election Day will ensure that all valid ballots are tallied.

Don’t rely on my word. Read Palast (and other investigative reporters) and read Bugliosi. They have told it like it was, is and will be, if the media and you don’t focus on this vital issue. Don’t let fraud deny those in America with legal status: the right vote and to have their votes counted.
